Iron Girl Syracuse Event Information

Packet pick-up includes your participant gift, bib number, and timing chip. 

Participants must have a valid photo ID in order to pick up a packet (driver’s license, passport, Military ID, Government issued ID.) If you’re unable to attend Packet Pick-Up, someone may pick up your packet on your behalf. He/she MUST have a copy of the participant’s photo ID.

Mandatory Athlete Packet Pick-Up & Bike Racking Saturday, June 23 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Location: Oneida Shores Park Packet Pick-up and Bike Racking Rules There will not be race day packet pick-up or bike check-in. Please plan accordingly as you must pick-up your race packet and rack your bike on Saturday. All participants are expected to attend packet pick up on Saturday in person. This is due insurance liability mandates. All participants must show a photo ID, and all USAT annual members additionally must show their membership card. Per USAT rules, each participant must pick up their own packet. NO EXCEPTIONS. A unique wristband will be affixed at this time which must remain on through to the end of the race.
The 2018 Participant Guide will be available 4 weeks prior to the event

Iron Girl Sprint Triathlon – Distance: 600 meter swim/ 30K bike/ 5K run 

SWIM COURSE: The swim takes place in beautiful Oneida Lake.

BIKE COURSE: The bike takes place on the scenic and gently rolling country roads.

RUN COURSE: The run course will feature a fast, flat out and back course along the shoreline of Oneida Lake.

 

Iron Girl Bike-Run – Distance: 30K bike / 5K run

Iron Girl Relay – Relays can be a team of 2 or 3 people. Each person must do at least 1 leg of the event. (for example Teams of 2 can be person A does the swim and bike, person B does the run OR person A swims and runs, person B bikes).

Aquabike-  – Distance: 600 meter swim/ 30K bike

Buddy Wave – Participants wishing to swim with a friend or family member (that is also registered for the race) may elect to start in a Buddy Wave. The Buddy Waves will be the last waves. Please note that Iron Girl triathlons are USAT sanctioned events and Iron Girl participants who start in a Buddy Wave will be ineligible for age group awards. All Buddy Wave participant times will still be posted and all finishers will receive a medal on race day!

 

The following cut-off times for the event:

Swim – 30 minutes
Bike – 2 hours
Run – 60 minutes

RULES: Strollers, Inline Skates, Rollerblades, Headphones and Dogs Not Allowed On Course

For the safety of all participants, strollers, inline skates, rollerblades, headphones and dogs are not allowed on the course at any time.

This event is USAT sanctioned.

Swim Wave Starts

You are assigned based on the USAT age rule, which means you are racing based on your age as of 12/31/2018. Your swim wave will be noted on your packet.

Buddy Wave – Participants wishing to swim with a friend or family member (that is also registered for the race) may elect to start in a Buddy Wave. The Buddy Waves will be the last waves. Please note that Iron Girl triathlons are USAT sanctioned events and Iron Girl participants who start in a Buddy Wave will be ineligible for age group awards. All Buddy Wave participant times will still be posted and all finishers will receive a medal on race day!

Wet suits Rules

USAT RULE Article IV Swimming Conduct 4.4 Wet suits. Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wet suit without penalty in any event sanctioned by USA Triathlon up to and including a water temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit. When the water temperature is greater than 78 degrees, but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, age group participants may wear a wet suit at their own discretion, provided however that participants who wear a wet suit within this temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards. Age group participants shall not wear wet suits in water temperatures equal to or greater than 84 degrees Fahrenheit.

Please note we will take an official water temperature reading on race morning. Please plan accordingly to be prepared if it is wet suit legal race and you have the option to wear one.

The following cut-off times for the event:

Swim – 30 minutes from the time you started the swim

Athletes will start in waves by age group for the swim.

Please understand that you must complete each leg of a triathlon within the cut-off times listed. If you do not finish each leg of the event within the cut-off time, a volunteer or race official remove your timing tag. You will not be able to go on to the next leg of the event.

BIKE COURSE: The bike takes place on the scenic and gently rolling country roads.

The following cut-off times for the event:

Bike – 2 hours.

These are open roads. Please use caution and stay to the right of the road except when passing.

Please familiarize yourself with all USAT rules. Such as yell “ON YOUR LEFT!” when passing.

Age Group Awards

We will have 12 age groups: under 17; 18 – 24; 25 – 29; 30 – 34; 35 – 39; 40 – 44; 45 – 49; 50 – 54; 55 – 59; 60 – 64; 65 – 69; 70 +

You must be 13 years or older to participate in the triathlon.

Triathlon: The top three overall winners and the top three in each age group will be presented with an award.

Bike-Run: The top three overall winners will be presented with an award.

Aquabike: The top three overall winners will be presented with an award.

Relay: The top team overall winners will be presented with an award.

Transfer & Refund Policies

All participant entries are non-transferable and non-refundable. You may not transfer or sell your race number to another person and we do not offer deferrals to events in the next season or another event in the series. Absolutely NO Refunds after June 1st.

Any changes/corrections/switching to a different event distance must be made in person at packet pickup.

All finishers receive a medal! New 2018 design coming soon.

USAT

All Iron Girl triathlons are sanctioned by USA Triathlon (USAT). All participants must be USAT members or purchase a 1-day USAT pass when registering.

All participants are expected to attend packet pick up Saturday in person. Special notice to participants in regard to USAT Membership for Registration

Participants MUST bring proof of annual membership or purchase a one-day permit. Athletes who do not bring/show proof of membership must purchase a one-day OR will not be allowed to race. If you purchased the one day license when you registered, your name will be on a list we have and you do not need to bring anything other than photo ID.

Participants who forget their USAT membership cards will have four options:


– Go “back” and get your card.

– Print off a temporary membership card from the USAT web site,    www.usatriathlon.org – Purchase a $15.00 one-day license, fee increase as of January 1, 2012

– Renew your annual membership online and bring proof of renewal

Please remember to pack your USAT membership card. Don’t leave home without it!

USAT Age Up Rule

All USAT races, including the Iron Girl, will use the “Age Up Rule” for award distribution and ranking. The age up rule means you are racing based on your age as of 12/31/2018. This action aligns regular U.S. age group racing with the method used by USA Triathlon for its National Rankings Program
